The occurence is located in a low, cove like area surrounded on 3 sides by upland mixed forest and on the other side by a backed up small tributary.The main part of the Sandy Creek embayment lies ~500' to the south. The occurrence lies ~1200' to the east of the Ohio River just at the eastern edge of the flood plain.The edge of the woods has Verbesina alternifolia, Vernonia gigantea ssp. gigantea and Toxicodendron radicans. A patch of Onoclea sensibilis is located just NE of the plot and Carex to the SE.;The vegetation is extremely variable and patchy. The Lythrum salicaria in the plot is one of the few occurrences in the community.
